While many permanent makeup artists offer lip blush, very few are trained, certified, and experienced enough to safely perform lip neutralization.

What Is Lip Blush?
Lip blush tattoo is a cosmetic tattoo designed to enhance or change the natural lip color, improve symmetry and definition, and camouflage imperfections such as scars and Fordyce spots.
Lip blush is best for clients who have naturally light lips.
Because lip blush works with your existing lip color, it is suitable only when the lips do not have significant dark or cool undertones.
What Is Lip Neutralization?
Lip neutralization is an advanced corrective permanent makeup procedure designed to treat dark, cool, uneven, or hyperpigmented lips.
Not only women of color have darker lips—lips can darken due to various reasons such as hormonal changes, smoking, sun exposure, and other environmental factors.
Unlike lip blush, we can’t use the desired color right away—darker tones need to be neutralized first before we apply the targeted color. This typically takes at least 2 sessions, spaced 10–12 weeks apart (with regular lip blush, we can usually do a touch-up as soon as 6 weeks).
Depending on the level of pigmentation, additional sessions might be needed.
This procedure requires advanced color theory and pigment chemistry, as well as precise depth control and technique, since excessive trauma may lead to irreversible damage—such as scarring or even permanent darkening.
This is why many artists do not offer lip neutralization—it is technically demanding, unforgiving if done incorrectly, and requires trust and patience from the client, since results take weeks to develop. The color change does not happen overnight.
