Can You Get Permanent Makeup After Botox or Fillers?

Yes — you can absolutely have permanent makeup if you get Botox or dermal fillers. But the timing matters.

At ALTRA Permanent Makeup Studio, we generally recommend waiting 2–3 weeks after Botox before permanent makeup and around 4 weeks after lip filler before Lip Blush.

These waiting periods allow swelling to resolve, Botox to take effect, and filler to settle before we map and tattoo the area.

How Long After Botox Can You Get Permanent Makeup?

We recommend waiting at least 2–3 weeks after Botox before getting permanent makeup, particularly if you are having your brows done.

This includes:

 ● Powder/Ombre Brows

 ● Nano Brows

 ● Combo Brows

 ● Microblading or other permanent eyebrow techniques

Botox works by temporarily relaxing specific facial muscles. When Botox is placed in areas such as the forehead, glabella, or around the brows, it can temporarily change the position and movement of the eyebrows.

That matters when we are designing permanent brows.

Brow mapping is based on your facial anatomy, natural brow growth, muscle movement, and overall symmetry. We don’t want to map your brows while Botox is still taking effect or while your brow position is changing.

By 2–3 weeks after Botox, the treatment has generally had enough time to settle so we can evaluate your brows in their more stable position.

Should I Get Botox Before or After Permanent Brows?

If you already regularly receive Botox and know how it affects your brow position, you can have your Botox first and wait 2–3 weeks before your permanent brow appointment.

If you are planning to get Botox after your PMU appointment instead, your injector should also know that your brows were recently tattooed so the area can be treated appropriately.

How Long After Lip Filler Can You Get Lip Blush?

For Lip Blush after lip filler, we recommend waiting approximately 4 weeks.

Lip filler creates swelling immediately after treatment, and the lips can continue changing as the swelling resolves and the filler settles.

Lip Blush requires extremely precise mapping of the lip border, Cupid’s bow, corners, and overall symmetry. We want to work with your settled lip shape, not temporary post-filler swelling.

Waiting about a month also gives the tissue time to recover before undergoing another procedure.

Can You Get Lip Filler After Lip Blush?

Yes, but these treatments should also be spaced apart.

Lip Blush creates temporary inflammation and requires time for the skin to heal. Filler injections performed too soon afterward would introduce additional trauma into an area that is still recovering.

If you’re planning both treatments, tell both your permanent makeup artist and your injector so the appointments can be scheduled appropriately.

Does Lip Filler Change Your Lip Blush?

This is another reason we prefer to perform Lip Blush once filler has settled.

Filler can change the volume, projection, symmetry, and visible border of the lips. Even subtle changes can affect how we map Lip Blush.

One important thing to understand is that Lip Blush does not create additional lip volume the way filler does. It enhances the color, definition, and overall appearance of your natural lip tissue.

When filler and Lip Blush are done well — and appropriately spaced — the two treatments can complement each other beautifully.

What About Permanent Eyeliner and Botox?

Botox in the forehead or brow area usually has less impact on permanent eyeliner than it does on brow mapping, but we still recommend spacing cosmetic injectable treatments and permanent makeup appointments.

If you’ve recently had Botox around the eyes, including crow’s-feet treatment, let your permanent makeup artist know before your appointment.

The eye area is delicate, and we want any swelling, bruising, or irritation from injections to be completely resolved before performing permanent eyeliner or lash line enhancement.

Why Do We Space Botox, Fillers, and Permanent Makeup Apart?

The reason is simple: we want predictable results.

Permanent makeup is different from traditional makeup. Once pigment is implanted into the skin, we can’t simply wipe it off and redraw it.

For brows, we need to see the position of the eyebrows after Botox has settled.

For lips, we need to see the true shape of the lips after filler swelling has resolved.

And for every permanent makeup procedure, we want the skin to be healthy and recovered before creating additional trauma.

Spacing treatments properly gives us the best possible canvas to work with.

Other Cosmetic Treatments Before Permanent Makeup

Botox and fillers aren’t the only treatments you should mention before your PMU appointment.

Please tell your artist if you’ve recently had:

 ● Chemical peels

 ● Laser or IPL treatments

 ● Microneedling

 ● Facial treatments involving strong exfoliation

 ● Prescription-strength topical skincare

 ● Cosmetic injections

 ● Surgery or other procedures near the treatment area

Some treatments require additional healing time before permanent makeup can safely be performed.

Planning Botox, Filler, and Permanent Makeup? Here’s the Easy Rule.

If you’re trying to coordinate your appointments, remember:

Botox → wait 2–3 weeks → Permanent Makeup

Lip Filler → wait approximately 4 weeks → Lip Blush

When in doubt, contact us before scheduling so we can make sure your appointments are spaced appropriately.
